We live in an age where security for both the home and the business is absolutely necessary. There are many different levels of security that you can utilize, the first and most obvious one being the security guard. There was a time when the security guard was the only way to keep an eye on a building, but now it has become more of a hindrance and an unnecessary expense. Ever since video cameras were introduced, the only security guards have been employed to watch those cameras. No longer does someone have to sit at the edge of a fence on a cold winter’s night unless they are in the military. Those people never relied on cameras in the first place.
Now that video cameras have evolved past the old tape systems, we can use what is known as a DVR surveillance system, as well as DVR security systems. DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder and has many uses. Perhaps the first thing you think of is the box on top of your television that you use for recording cable programs. A security camera system of this nature works in the same way, but it records a direct feed from a camera, often times using long range fiber optics.
These are superior to standard video cameras in so many ways, whether they use fiber optics or transmit over coax. You see, a video camera can run out of tape, in which case you would need to have someone change the tape. What if something happens during those few moments needed to change the tape? What would you d? Would you ever know? With a DVR security camera you are recording directly to a hard drive, meaning you will not need to change the tape, and with most systems you are actually able to send the saved data to different video servers once the drive begins to fill.
But with this high end technology comes another problem. You need to be able to safeguard it against both vandals, and even your own people at times. This means that certain accessories for your system such as lock boxes and vandal proof equipment are absolutely necessary. This will cost a bit more money than you may have been wanting to spend, but what’s a few extra dollars when you are talking about the integrity of your DVR Surveillance systems? If you want to really step it up a notch then you could always opt to use military grade equipment as well as dynamic cameras. Not only will you keep your equipment safe, you will also be able to see just who wants to do it harm.
When you are looking to buy a DVR surveillance system, you should know that there are many different models out there, and many different grades. For instance you can put down a minimal amount of money and purchase one with a smaller hard drive, but this might cause problems later on. You might also pay a lower price if you do not want the enhanced security features, but this rests on how confident you are with your staff and the safety of your equipment. Remember that if you are going to have outdoor cameras you will need to have weather proof cameras. This is an absolute must, and you should start looking into those today.
While this may cost less than having to pay someone to sit out beside the fence, know that you will have to replace the cheaper equipment more frequently, and sometimes it could add up to the salary of a night watchman. Make sure you take this into account when you are buying your equipment. As long as you make the right choices, a DVD surveillance system is without a doubt one of the best decisions that you can make for your company, and soon enough you will start to gain plenty of returns on it.
