DVR Security Cameras

In this current climate many people are choosing to protect their home with a form of security camera system so that they can keep track of their property and see what is going on outside without leaving the security of the home, and also protect the home when they are unable to be there.

A DVR surveillance system is one of the most cost effective ways of securing your home and it is very efficient too. DVR stands for digital video system, where images are sent from the various cameras on your property and are stored in video format on a hard drive at the control point.

You will need to decide how many DVR security cameras you need on your property. This will depend on many factors such as where your key entry and exit points are and where you may have areas that are easy for potential criminals to hide in, for example if you have high trees and fences that screen them from anyone who may otherwise see them.  When you have your DVR security system installed, you will also be given the option to add various extra security items to you home system. For example cages can be placed around the cameras, which means that pictures are still safely sent but the cameras become more vandal proof, which adds protection from both the real criminal and kids that think it is funny to interfere.

Maybe you live in an area where you feel that it is equally important to weatherproof either for day/night, depending on what your climate is like. Again, camera protection can be offered for this, whether you choose to have element proof lock boxes to encase your cameras or just to add again to the security and tamper proof element of your system. It could also benefit you to have a wireless surveillance system installed to protect your business. In fact, such DVR systems are used widely even as military grade protection for the simple fact that they really do work.

Wireless systems work in exactly the same way but allow real time monitoring to take place from a remote location, which makes security a lot easier and probably more cost effective as you will no longer require an onsite guard.  Mini cameras can be a bonus too in remote locations as they can be made a lot less obvious and therefore give the impression that the building is not actually protected at all. Add to this the use of dynamic cameras or wide dynamic cameras where you can remotely adjust the camera angle, point, tilt and zoom in or go to a long range shot should the need arise, and target anything that catches your eye without the culprit being aware that you are even watching them, and you really do have an all singing, all dancing sec urity system.

The system will need to be wired into your mains electric supply, so make sure that you have cameras with battery backup incase you lose your power supply. Most hard drives will have some form of back up, and for large premises you may want to invest in video servers to store and routinely back up images so that they are preserved indefinitely.  Most systems will simply start recording over older images once the drive is full, which is acceptable for home systems but not necessarily for a business or military installation.

In terms of cabling, largely systems work with over coax transmission or fiber optic cables, but this is best discussed with the company you choose to install your system as they are best placed to advise you on which is the best choice for your needs.  It is always a good idea to get more than one company in to quote and advise you before you decide who to employ to carry out the works, as you need to know that you are getting a good deal and also that the company knows its stuff. If you get conflicting advice you certainly need to ask more questions as securing your home or business is clearly important to you and therefore it is important that you get it right.

Once you have the system installed you will be amazed how quickly you come to rely on it and how much safer you feel with the DVR security system in place, as even the sight of a camera puts off most of the small time criminals who may have been opportunist enough to break in before.
